How Hornetsecurity's unified platform closes the Microsoft 365 security gap for MSPs

Written by Edward Knox | 27 October 2026

In conversations with MSPs across the UK, I hear the same thing again and again. Microsoft 365's built-in security covers the basics of email filtering and access control, but backup, permissions visibility, compliance and staff awareness training are all left for someone else to sort out. Most MSPs end up sorting it out with separate tools from separate vendors, each with its own dashboard. Hornetsecurity's Unified Platform brings those five areas under one roof, and for MSPs already stretched thin managing Microsoft's own admin sprawl, that consolidation is worth taking seriously.

Where Microsoft 365's own protection runs out

Anyone who's spent time in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center knows the frustration. Features get renamed, moved or replaced without warning, and the top search result for a genuine question is often a forum post from years ago that no longer applies. That's before you even get to the security gap itself. Native Microsoft 365 protection covers the fundamentals, but it was never built to be a complete answer. MSPs end up filling the space with a backup tool here, an awareness training platform there and a compliance add-on somewhere else, each with its own login and its own renewal date to track.

What the unified platform actually covers

We built Hornetsecurity's Unified Platform to bring five areas together:

  • Microsoft 365 Backup: automated, policy-driven backup across Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, with granular recovery so restoring one email doesn't mean restoring an entire mailbox.
  • Permissions management: visibility into who has access to what, so over-permissioned accounts and stale sharing links get caught before they become a problem.
  • Email security: AI-driven filtering against phishing and targeted attacks, (still the most common way into a Microsoft 365 tenant).
  • Compliance and continuity: archiving and continuity built in, rather than bolted on as a separate purchase.
  • Security awareness training: ongoing phishing simulations and staff education because most incidents still start with someone clicking something they shouldn't.

All of it sits in a single Hornet control panel, so an MSP managing twenty customers checks one dashboard instead of twenty.

It's worth being clear about the edges too. Hornetsecurity sits alongside Microsoft 365 Admin Center for day-to-day provisioning, and it doesn't extend into Microsoft Purview or data loss prevention.

Fewer vendors means bigger deals

For partners, the platform argument is as much commercial as technical. Five separate vendor relationships become one, with a single bundled security line instead of five disconnected ones. Renewal conversations turn into expansion conversations. It's also priced to be a genuinely competitive alternative to Mimecast, our closest large rival, though cost isn't the headline.

Over 90% of the MSPs I talk to are already the target market

If Hornetsecurity is already part of your stack, the unified platform is a reason to have the consolidation conversation with customers still juggling separate backup and awareness training vendors elsewhere. If you don't sell it yet, it's worth knowing that over 90% of the MSPs I speak with in the UK are Microsoft 365 houses, which makes it relevant to nearly every customer conversation you're already having.

The MSPs that come out ahead here won't be the ones running the most tools. They'll be the ones running the fewest tools that still cover the whole picture. Get in touch with the Elovade UK&I team to talk through where Hornetsecurity's Unified Platform fits into your Microsoft 365 offering.
